Wow, what a subject to start off with on my very first post to my personal blog. Osama Bin Laden is dead! Justice has been served. While this is nothing but good news, some may feel that it is the end. It is in fact not the end of terrorism. Others will go on. There is no negotiating with someone who believes god is driving them to do what they do. No matter what you offer, the god they follow offers more. No matter what threats you convey, the threat of the god they follow is worse. He was not the god commanding these cowards that blow up women and children. He was simply a spokesperson, an organizer. His death ends nothing. It’s simply a symbolic vengeance for the attacks of 9/11. But it feels good regardless.
This is not the same as the death of Hitler. Hitler was a leader of a country. While his beliefs were followed passionately they were not religious beliefs. While there are still followers of Hitler, mostly teens recruited by the white supremacist movement, the terror the Nazis doled out ended with his death. The terrorist associated with Osama Bin Laden will not stop at his death.
His followers will see his death as his final gift of martyrdom to them. And I wonder how many will be inspired to join him in what they see as the most honorable way to die. How many suicide bombers will we see in the next few days? I am not saying we should have poked this bear. I have never been one to back down because I was afraid of the consequences. I am just making an observation and prediction that they will at least try to strike out.
